What difference does donating my vehicle make?
The St. Vincent de Paul Society uses income generated by donated vehicles to provide assistance to those in need. Suitable vehicles may also be given to qualifying clients who do not have reliable transportation.
You benefit as well. The fair market value of your donated vehicle may be used as a tax deduction. You also save time and eliminate the liability and stress of selling the vehicle yourself.
How long will it take to get my vehicle picked-up?
The assigned tow company will contact you in approximately 2-3 days to schedule an appointment. We ask you to sign your title over to St. Vincent De Paul in the section on the title that reads “Title Assignment by Seller” you will give that title and keys to the two driver. The tow company will leave you a tow receipt showing it was picked up on behalf of SVDP. Your SVDP receipt and tax form are mailed to you.
Does my vehicle need to run in order to be donated?
SVdP takes cars and trucks of any age and condition whether they are running or not.
Who and what determines that vehicle’s value?
The vehicle is valued by a variety of factors. For tax purposes, it will be up to you to determine a value that is appropriate by considering that vehicles age, condition, model and other factors that would affect its value. You may look up the fair market value of your vehicle at www.kbb.com. Some donors look in their local paper to see what one is selling for. If you believe your vehicle has a fair market value of $5000.00 or more SVDP will have a written appraisal done for you.
Will I be charged for pickup?
No. SVdP arranges to have your vehicle picked up at no cost to you.
Who and what determines the car's value?
The car is valued by a variety of factors. Your thank you letter will include the Blue Book value range for your donated vehicle. This is done as a courtesy, and does not represent an appraisal or documentation of a vehicle’s value. For tax purposes, it will be up to you to determine a value that is appropriate by considering your car's age, condition, model and other factors that would affect its value.
How much does the St. Vincent de Paul Society receive from each car donation?
When a car is sold at auction, SVdP receives 100% of the net revenue (after nominal towing, prep, and auction fees).
When a car is sold to a parts dealer, SVdP receives 100% of the revenue.
When a donated dependable car is given to a qualifying client, SVdP realizes no financial return, but knows that the vehicle will make a huge difference in allowing another family to regain and maintain stability in their life.
How much of the revenue SVdP receives from my car will go to help those in need?
100% of the proceeds SVdP receives from your vehicle go to support programs that serve those in need.
