The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is committed to responding to the needs of individuals and families who find themselves in difficult circumstances. Our goal is to offer assistance that recognizes the respect and dignity of those we encounter, addressing short-term needs as well as longer-term issues. To help people meet the variety of challenges facing them, the Society provides basic assistance for financial, food, clothing, transportation, medical, or other needs.

The Home Visit
The home visit is the cornerstone of the Society’s efforts and has its origins in the visits the first members of the Society made to the poor in Paris; bringing them bread & clothing with a spirit of compassion & friendship. Today these visits allow Society members to understand clients’ circumstances first hand and determine the most appropriate ways to address their needs.

Emergency Services
The Society provides help with shelter and utilities to those in need. Since December 2004, 731 people have received assistance totaling more than $32, 915 through the St. Vincent De Paul of Lansing.

Direct Assistance
Through Vincentian services those in need can receive assistance with food, furniture, clothing, job counseling, sacraments, or travel aid. Vincentians also make hospital, prison, and home visits for the aged contacts. The year of 2002 saw over 40,000 people served through Vincentian services.
